Idea Cellular will soon provide its subscribers with 3G services including high-speed mobile broadband, improved voice services and innovative value-added services. Idea Cellular has commissioned Nokia Siemens Networks to supply equipment, and build and manage its HSPA networks in four circles– Uttar Pradesh (East), Uttar Pradesh (West), Kerala and Haryana. Nokia Siemens Networks is currently a major GSM vendor for the operator and the deal will strengthen this relationship with a smooth overlay of 3G on the existing GSM network.

Under the contract, Nokia Siemens Networks will supply its Flexi Multiradio Base Stations, mobile packet core and mobile backhauling including FlexiPacket microwave radio, which will be deployed in five circles. Nokia Siemens Networks will also supply unified network management, monitoring and optimisation based on its NetAct system. This next generation Operation Support Systems (OSS) will provide Idea Cellular with the required flexibility to meet new customer demands.

As part of the deal, Nokia Siemens Networks will also provide network implementation, project management, care and maintenance services. Additionally, Nokia Siemens Networks will apply its domain expertise in 3G network operations to provide support to the operator in managing its 3G network.
